Finding Your Rhythm
The important key in good rhythm, once we determine our own personal pace, is that the rhythm is consistent on both the back-swing and the thru-swing. Those that swing back quickly swing through quickly. Those that swing back slow swing back slow. It is not that the slow swingers are also short hitters (our earlier example is a perfect one). Slower tempo players usually have swings that are longer and therefore allow the clubhead more time to speed up. All of us will gain maximum distance not when we swing hard but when we swing at our best tempo. This allows all systems to work together. Our shoulder turn, our wrist cock, our transition from backswing to downswing, our release, and our balance.
A good way to help you fine tune your rhythm is to hit about 50 or 60 drivers in a row. Now, I know I have said and will continue to say that we should vary our practice sessions and never hit more than a few shots in a row with the same club. But I always qualify this by saying so UNLESS there is a specific purpose, and this qualifies as a specific purpose. The reason you can find out what works best is because the driver accentuates any errors. When you find a rhythm that works well with the driver, it will work well with any other club in your bag.
